TECNO Camon 12 Air is amongst the premium looking TECNO Camon Series that was recently launched in Kenya. Not to mention, I’ve been using it for a couple of weeks now as my daily driver. And now, I want to share with you more about the impressive value of TECNO Camon 12 but for less.
Above all, the TECNO Camon 12 Air is the cheaper and better-designed smartphone in the TECNO Camon 12 series. And it’s the only device in this price range that features a punch-hole display.
Generally, the TECNO Camon 12 Air comes in a beautiful and reflective color gradient. Back where the triple ai-powered cameras and a fingerprint sensor are located.
Although it’s not as feature-rich as the rest of the TECNO Camon 12 devices, it still manages to impress me more than expected. The phone is also light as a feather and makes for a good phone for those who hate bulky phones.
What’re the Features of TECNO Camon 12 Air?
In addition, it’s has a 720p Screen Resolution, 3GB of Ram as well as 32GB of Rom. With a dual sim and memory card tray as well as an expandable memory card – to 256GB. And also, it has a 4,000mah battery and it is powered by the Mediatek Helio P22 chip.
Here is my review of the all-new Tecno Camon 12 Air. Not forgetting, this is the first device released by TECNO to have a front-facing camera on the display. Of course, just like the Samsung S10 and Samsung S10e.
Protective Casing & Packaging
Just like the Tecno Camon 12, the Camon 12 Air also comes with a free silicone phone-case as well as a hard screen protector. The protector in this instance does not have a notch.
Notice how the parrot’s eye coincides with the Camera dot? Well, there are more wallpapers in the Camon 12 Air just like that one.
Inside the packaging, there are the following normal accessories;
- 2.0A charger with
- A quality micro USB cable
- Hands-free headset
- SIM Ejector tool
- User manual
- 12 + 1 Months warranty card
While the Tecno Camon 12 Air goes for Ksh13,499, the other Camon 12 variants cost a little bit more.
Here are their prices;
- Tecno Camon 12 64GB ROM+ 4GB RAM goes for 15,499/-
- Tecno Camon 12 Pro 64GB ROM + 6GB RAM goes for 19,499/-
The Tecno Camon 12 Air is one of the variants of the new Tecno Camon 12 series.
The first thing you’ll notice is the Dot-in display that separates it from the rest. You get a 6.55″ 720p display but its the hole-punch camera that pulls attention to the phone wherever you go or when you place it on the table.
The display offers decent readability even when outside and you’ll love that almost full-screen experience when browsing the web or scrolling through social media apps. Or just going through the amazing photos the phone takes in your gallery.
Worth noting is that the screen on the TECNO Camon 12 Air is relatively bigger. When compared with the TECNO Camon 12 Pro and the standard TECNO Camon that feature 6.44″ and 6.52″ displays respectively.
The phone’s back boasts a triple camera setup vertically aligned on the top left corner. Next to the cameras is a quad-LED flash.
There’s a 6.55″ 720p display that features a punch-hole selfie camera with decent viewing angles but under direct sunlight makes it hard to read articles. The Dot-in display gives users of the TECNO Camon 12 Air a full-screen experience when browsing the web, consuming media or lazily going through your social media feeds.
On the other hand, the front of the TECNO Camon 12 Air has minimal side bezels. However, there’s a relatively large chin.
The buttons are well-placed and easily accessible, especially for one-handed usage. On the left is the slot for your two sim cards and expandable storage via microSD card.
Definitely, you’ll also get the usual headphone jack and a micro-USB charging port alongside the mono-speaker grill.
The TECNO Camon 12 Air comes with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage and runs on Android 9 Pie with HiOS version 5.5.2. You’ll also get a MediaTek Helio P22 processor powers the phone. The performance is not class-leading but the TECNO Camon 12 handles basic stuff well.
The phone also performs decently for some graphics-heavy tasks but you’ll occasionally have the stutter. Overall, the performance is surprisingly good and multitasking was no issue on this phone courtesy of the relatively fast processor and 3 gigs of RAM.
HiOS offers a few useful customizations options when it’s not annoying you with intermittent ads such as the Smart Panel and Fonts app. You’ll have to uninstall some of the preinstalled bloatware that comes with the phone.
Gaming on the TECNO Camon 12 is possible only at low settings. If you go with high settings, you’ll notice frame rates drop for games like Asphalt 9. If you’re a casual gamer, then this phone is for you.
The 4000mAh battery will push the TECNO Camon 12 Air through to the next day if you’re a light user but if you heavily tax your phone, you’ll still get a full day performance but you’ll have to juice it up before you go to sleep.
The face unlock is pretty fast and accurate and the face unlocks animation is adorable. You can trust the TECNO Camon 12 Air with its relatively superb performance considering the price category it exists in.
Rear & Front Camera
The TECNO Camon 12 Air spots a 16MP, 5MP and 2MP lens for the rear cameras and an 8MP selfie shooter. In well-lit scenes, the cameras are versatile and will give you decent shots.
You have modes such as beauty, Bokeh, Portrait, AR Shot, Panorama, Wide Selfie and Video to play around with. Here are some samples and as always, click to expand.
Being AI-powered gives the cameras an upper hand in scene recognition and optimizing them to take better shots. In low lit scenes, the cameras give an average performance and low image quality.
Generally, the macro camera works well and you ‘ll not be disappointed. You won’t go wrong with the cameras on the TECNO Camon 12 Air especially in well-lit scenarios.
Why Should you Buy TECNO Camon 12 Air?
You’d think that it’s underpowered since it lacks some of the features of its bigger siblings but that’s not the case. The TECNO Camon 12 Air makes it easy to recommend to people.
As it’s not only the most interesting phone but also, it brings with it capable cameras. In addition, it has a trustworthy performance, and decent battery life – all at a budget. Most obviously, because of its modern-looking design in this fiercely contested price segment.
Equally important, it spots a color gradient back with the options of Midnight Black, Aqua Blue, and Bordeaux Red. On the back, you get a triple camera setup and the fingerprint sensor too.
Priced at Kshs. 13,299, I think this is the new budget king in the market. what’s your take? Let me know your opinion in the comments box below this preview.
The Camera has some Pros and Cons though. In other words, the TECNO Camon 12 Air is a well-designed phone and it being so lightweight helps with the ergonomics.
For photographers, the TECNO Camera does a decent job in well-lit areas. But, struggles when the sun sets as you’ll see in the samples below. You get a 16MP, 5MP and 2MP lens for the rear cameras and an 8MP selfie shooter.
The Pro version comes with a 16MP, 8MP and 2MP lens for the back cameras and 32MP selfie camera while the standard version packs a similar setup for the rear and a 16MP lens for selfies.
However, there are different modes to play around with. Such as beauty, Bokeh, Portrait, AR Shot, Panorama, Wide Selfie, and Video.
