Who is Gloria Trevi?

Gloria Trevi was born Gloria de Los Angeles Trevino Ruiz, on February 15, 1968, in Monterrey, Mexico. And whereas she was the eldest of five siblings.

Not forgetting, the Mexican born Pop Singer became a well-known star in the 1990s. For instance, when her debut album Que Hago Aqui? (What Am I Doing Here?) (1989) topped the charts. However, her career fell apart shortly after.

Especially, when Gloria and her Manager Sergio Andrade were accused of corrupting minors, sexual abuse, and kidnapping. In the end, the couple fled Mexico. But, they were arrested in Brazil in 2000 and were jailed.

Inasmuch as Gloria Trevi was released in 2004, she attempted to revive her career in music with a new album and tour. So to say, her dreams of being an entertainer began young.

When did Gloria Trevi start music?

Notably, Gloria Trevi started learning poetry recital at age five. Followed by ballet and piano lessons, and later learned to play the drums.

However, her parents divorced when she was 10 and she left home at age 12, against her mother’s wishes.

In 1980 Trevi went alone to Mexico City, with no money, to pursue a career in the entertainment industry.

She earned money in any way she could. Including,

  1. singing and dancing in the street,
  2. teaching aerobics
  3. and working at a taco stand.

In 1984 the 16-year-old Trevi met Sergio Andrade, 28, who became her mentor. Additionally, in 1985, she briefly joined a girl band called Boquitas Pintadas (Little Mouths with Lipstick).

The heavily influenced by British and American rock, as well as by Latin music, Trevi decided to become a solo artist.

With Sergio Andrade as her manager, Trevi released her debut album Que Hago Aqui? (What Am I Doing Here?) (1989), which was an instant chart success.

Her Successfully Completed Music Tour Concerts

Remarkably, between 1991 and 1996, Gloria Trevi released five albums and starred in three Mexican box-offices hit films.

In 1992 she toured the Caribbean and South America, playing to audiences in the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Chile, and Puerto Rico.

Whereby, her music was provocative and political, with lyrics dripping in sexual innuendo. Above all her aim was always to expose hypocrites.

Other successfully completed Music Tour and Concerts by Trevi in 2017 include attributions to various events. Such as;

In December 1995, Trevi released her final studio album of the decade and her final album produced by Adrade, Si Me Llevas Contigo (If You Take Me with You).

The album produced two moderate hits, “Ella Que Nunca Fue Ella” (“She Who Never Was Herself“). And “Si Me Llevas Contigo” (“If You Take Me with You“).

Gloria Trevi Post-arrest Career Success

2004 – 2010

Following her release, Trevi released her sixth studio album, Como Nace el Universo (“How the Universe was Born“).

The album was preceded by the moderate hit “En el Medio de la Tempestad” (“In the Midst of the Storm“). While her sixth record was well-received as her comeback, her seventh studio album Una Rosa Blu was a massive critical and commercial success.

Generally, released in 2007, the album produced several successful singles. Including, “Psicofonia, Pruebamelo” (“Prove it to Me“), “En Favor de la Soledad” (“In Favor of Solitude“), “Cinco Minutos” (“Five Minutes“), and “Todos Me Miran” (“Everyone Looks at Me“).

In 2010, Trevi released her eighth, self-titled studio album, Gloria.

The album included the successful singles “Vestida de Azucar” (“Dressed in Sugar“), “Fuego con Fuego” (“Fire with Fire“), “Me Rio de Ti” (“I Laugh at You“), “La Noche” (“The Night“), and “Esa Hembra es Mala” (“That Female is Evil“). Whereas, the latter was used as the theme song for the telenovela Teresa.

2013 – 2017

In 2013, Trevi released her tenth studio album De Pelicula. Important to realize, the album produced the single “No Querias Lastimarme” (“You Didn’t Want to Hurt Me“), which was a critical and massive success.

The song reached the top ten of the Latin Billboard charts and topped the charts of several Latin American countries.

Additionally, in 2015, Trevi embarked on a new passion project, which would become her eleventh studio album, El Amor.

Whereas, the concept album included covers of popular Latin American love ballads. Including previous songs from Trevi’s catalog as well as original work. Further, Trevi had two alter-egos for the album, Mr. Trevi and Mrs. Gloria.

The album debuted at the top of the Billboard Charts and produced two successful singles, “Como Yo Te Amo” (“How I Love You“) and “Las Pequeñas Cosas” (“The Little Things“).

In 2017, Trevi collaborated with fellow Mexican artist Alejandra Guzmán for the album Versus. The album included two singles, “Cuando un Hombre te Enamora” and “Mas Buena“.

Gloria Trevi Personal Life

Trevi married Armando Gómez, a lawyer, in 2009. She now lives in McAllenTexas, with Gómez and her two sons.

Trevi received the BMI President’s Award on March 2, 2016, at the 23rd BMI Latin Awards for her impact on Latin pop. In 2000, Trevi, Andrade and backup singer Maria Raquenel Portillo were arrested in Rio de JaneiroBrazil on charges of corrupting minors.

A year later, while in prison, she announced her pregnancy. The father was Andrade, according to DNA tests by Brazilian authorities. As a matter of fact, Trevi and her defense claimed that the results of the DNA test had been doctored).

However, Trevi was cleared of the charges in 2004, due to lack of evidence, after spending four years and eight months in prison.
