Anne Waiguru Biography Facts
Anne Waiguru began her career in the public service by providing Technical Assistance to the Public Service Reform Secretariat. Especially in what was then the Cabinet Office. Since then she has variously served as the Head of Governance and the Economic Stimulus Programme at the National Treasury. Also, alternate to the Permanent Secretary and or the National Treasury in the Public Procurement Oversight Authority and Advisory Board. And the Women Enterprise Fund Board.
Further, in view of her distinguished public career, she was successfully nominated two years ago as one of the Top 40 under 40 women in the country. Not to mention that she was the only nominee at the time from the Public Service.
Born in 1971 Waiguru attended Nairobi River Primary School and later Precious Blood Girls’ Secondary School, Riruta where she sat for her O-Level exams in 1987. She then joined Moi Forces Academy in Nairobi where she sat for her A-Level exams in 1989. At Moi Forces Academy, Anne Waiguru studied Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. Upon graduating from Egerton University with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture and home economics, she worked for Transparency International as an intern and research assistant, and then joined the Kenya Leadership Institute.
Taking lead in Governance
Waiguru holds a master’s degree in Economic Policy and Planning from the University of Nairobi. And has specialized experience in public finance, financial management systems, public service reform, capacity building, and governance. On the other hand, she is the former Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Devolution and Planning. In addition, Anne Waiguru was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in April 2013. In particular, as the Cabinet Secretary for devolution.
Besides, she is behind the establishment of Huduma Centres, places where Kenyan citizens can access government services more efficiently. As well as the 30% procurement rule, which accords at least 30 percent of all supply contracts to the government to the lesser. Including, to the youth, persons with disability and women.

At the end of August 2016, Anne Waiguru declared her interest in politics and registered for TNA membership. This was in preparation for the 2017 general election where she was planning to vie for the Kirinyaga County gubernatorial seat.
Be that as it may, should either Waiguru or Karua emerge triumphant in the General Election, they would make history. Of course by becoming the first female governors if not among the first. Correspondingly, Anne Waiguru resigned following the National Youth Service Scandal. In which approximately Kshs. 1.4 billion was stolen from the National Youth Service. So to say, a programme under the Ministry of Devolution and Planning, Waiguru resigned from her position as Cabinet Secretary, with Festus Mwangi Kiunjuri taking her place.
After the 2017 Elections
Anne Mumbi Waiguru is the 2nd and current governor of Kirinyaga County in Kenya, in office since 22 August 2017. She was elected as governor in elections held on 8 August 2017. Previously, she served as the first Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Devolution and Planning.
Kenyans On Twitter were highly critical of Waiguru’s intent to run for public office after a highly publicized corruption plot at the National Youth Service that led to her resignation. Despite demands for her sacking, President Uhuru Kenyatta and top government officials. Including, Deputy President William Ruto and majority leader Aden Duale stood by her. Especially dismissing the allegations as propaganda advanced by the opposition. An attempt to introduce a motion for impeachment in the National Assembly was defeated through concerted pressure from forces allied to the president.

The fight against corruption eventually mutated into the fight against Anne Waiguru. Anne Waiguru thereafter remade herself into a politician. Firstly, through fuelling speculation that she would seek elective office in Nairobi. Even before declaring her intent to become the next Kirinyaga Governor.
