The Glenfiddich Whisky Formation
For 20 years William Grant (18 December 1839 – 1923) nurtured a dream to make the ‘best dram in the valley’. Of course, with the help of his family, he finally achieved that vision. In addition, William was a Scottish distiller and entrepreneur. Notably, he founded William Grant & Sons, who are the main manufacturers of Glenfiddich whisky. As such, the first seo-automated-link-building-1 in the world to market a true single malt whiskey and a leading brand today. In the summer of 1886, with his seven sons and two daughters by his side, William set out to fulfill a lifelong ambition. Together they began building his Distillery by hand, stone by stone. After a single year of work, it was ready and William named it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer. Moreover, William’s passion, determination, and pioneering spirit continue to guide us today. Glenfiddich is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family owned and is now the World’s Most Awarded Single Malt Scotch Whisky. Which is a true reflection of our founder’s innovative nature, passed down through the generations.
William Grant successful Journey
On one hand, back in 1887, William Grant fulfilled a lifelong ambition and started building his own distillery with the help of his nine children and a single stone mason. On the other hand, he named it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer. After a year of hard labor, the first drop of spirit fell from the Glenfiddich’s copper stills on Christmas Day 1887.
However, as of 1923, Prohibition was in full swing. Whereas, William’s grandson Grant Gordon joined the family firm, surprising the industry and increasing the whiskey production. As the decade and the law turns, they are one of only six distilleries still operating in Scotland.
In 1957, Charles Gordon, William’s great-grandson, insisted on having coppersmiths onsite at the Distillery. Remarkably, rare and skilled craftsmen, who are always on hand to build and tend to the uniquely shaped and sized copper stills. Read more about the William Grants Successful Journey.
